Toronto Youth for UNICEF
A youth-led, nonprofit network of students based in the
Greater Toronto Area, supporting the mission and
overall goals of UNICEF.
UNICEF's Mission
UNICEF, an acronym for United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund, is a program stemming from the United Nations. Their mission is to protect the rights of children, help meet their basic needs, and grow their opportunities to achieve the brightest future possible. They were initially created after WW2, to provide relief to children whose countries were devasted by the war. Whether children are victim to poverty, natural disaster, war, violence, exploitation or another debilitating disadvantage, UNICEF aims to provide aid to children in need of better health, nutrition, education, safety, rights, and general well-being. They are guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, focusing their materials and resources to still-developing communities or emergency response, and prioritizing every child.
Our Mission
At Toronto Youth for UNICEF, we believe that every child, every human, deserves basic rights and must have their health and safety needs met. We began our initiative in 2020, with the goal of aiding this cause. We understand that our lives are those of great privilege, and we have the power to encourage our community to do their part in aiding those without these necessities, who still deserve a bright future. Through education, events, and community outreach, our goal is to spread awareness in our community and work towards a better future.
Current Initiatives
Our current initiatives include educational and term posts, ambassador recruitments and updating our multiple social media pages with the purpose of awareness. Due to COVID-19, we have been limited in the scope of our events, but have recently held a Youth Meets SDG Webinar and many team meetings with success.
Projects in the works include our website, a podcast, and a fundraiser. Stay tuned, or check out some of these initiatives!
Get Involved
Being a community-based organization, we strongly value our connection to our community! Executive, General Member, and Ambassador positions open periodically, and we hope to begin our Chapter series in Summer 2021.
We also hope to amplify the voices of youth and members of various communities – if you are interested in collaborating with us, or have an idea for a current or new initiative to begin with us, we’d love to hear from you!
